Off-the-Beaten-Path US Destinations Worth the Detour

Beyond Times Square and Hollywood — the places locals love that most visitors never find.

Most international visitors to the US follow a familiar circuit: New York, maybe Washington DC, fly to LA or San Francisco, possibly Las Vegas. These are all wonderful — but they're also extremely well-trodden, and the US has extraordinary places that see a fraction of the tourist traffic they deserve.

Savannah, Georgia is one of the most beautiful cities in North America — cobblestone squares, dripping Spanish moss, antebellum architecture, and a thriving food scene — and most international visitors have never heard of it. The Ozarks in Arkansas and Missouri have dramatic river valleys, cave systems, and outdoor adventures that rival the more famous national parks. Marfa, Texas is a surreal experience unlike anything else in the country.

This guide covers eight genuinely special destinations across the US that are either overlooked by international visitors or simply not on the typical tourist circuit — each with a clear reason why they're worth the trip.
