How to Extend Your Tourist Visa in Indonesia

Short answer

Yes. A Visa on Arrival (B1) can be extended once, by 30 days, for IDR 500,000 (about $35) — so up to 60 days total in Bali or anywhere in Indonesia. To stay longer you switch to a B211A visit visa (extendable to 180 days) or leave and re-enter.

How long can you actually stay?

A Visa on Arrival gives 30 days, extendable once by 30 days, for 60 days in total. Beyond that the VOA cannot be extended again — you either leave and re-enter, or apply for a B211A visit visa, which can be extended up to 180 days.

Step by step: extend at immigration

  1. Start about 2 weeks before your VOA expires — extensions can't be done at the last minute.
  2. If you bought an e-VOA online before arrival, you can apply to extend online; a VOA sticker bought at the airport must be extended in person.
  3. Since June 2025 everyone must attend the immigration office in person once for biometrics (photo + fingerprints), even for online applications.
  4. Bring your passport, VOA/entry stamp, and Indonesian address; pay the IDR 500,000 fee.
  5. Collect your passport with the 30-day extension stamp after processing (typically several working days).

Leave & re-enter
Fly out and get a fresh VOA on return. Common for short trips, but not a long-term fix.

FAQ

Can I extend a Bali Visa on Arrival twice?
No. The VOA can be extended only once, for 30 days (60 days total). To stay longer you switch to a B211A visit visa or leave and re-enter.
Can I extend my Indonesia visa online?
Only if you bought an electronic e-VOA online before arrival. A VOA sticker obtained at the airport must be extended at the immigration office. Since June 2025 one in-person biometric visit is required either way.
What is the overstay fine in Indonesia?
IDR 1,000,000 (about $65) per day for overstays up to 60 days. Beyond 60 days immigration issues a deportation order and an entry ban.
