How to Extend Your Tourist Visa in Thailand
Short answer
Yes. A 60-day tourist visa can be extended once, by 30 days, for ฿1,900 (about $55) at any immigration office — so up to 90 days in total. Visa-exempt entries can usually be extended by 30 days too.
How long can you actually stay?
Enter on a 60-day tourist visa, apply for the 30-day extension before it expires, and you can stay up to 90 days in total. To stay longer than that you will need a border run or a long-stay visa — see the alternatives below.
Step by step: extend at immigration
- Fill in form TM.7 — download it or collect one at the office.
- Gather your documents — passport, one photo, a copy of your visa and entry stamp, and proof of your Thai address.
- Go to your provincial immigration office — Bangkok (Chaeng Wattana), Chiang Mai, Phuket and most provinces have one.
- Pay the ฿1,900 fee — cash, with same-day approval in most offices.
- Or apply online via the government e-extension portal, where eligibility allows (limited by visa type and nationality).
What it costs
| Government extension fee | ฿1,900 (~$55) |
| Passport photo | ฿100 (~$3) |

| Overstay over 90 days | 1-year re-entry ban |
| Overstay over 1 year | 3-year ban |
| Overstay over 3 years | 5-year ban |
| Overstay over 5 years | 10-year ban |
Alternatives to extending
Border run
Exit and re-enter for a fresh entry stamp. Fast, but repeated runs are scrutinised at the border.
DTV / long-stay visa
The Destination Thailand Visa gives remote workers and long-stay visitors up to 5 years.
Thailand Privilege (Elite)
A 5–20 year privilege visa via paid membership, for those who want to settle long-term.
FAQ
Can I extend a Thailand tourist visa twice?
Normally you get one 30-day extension per entry. To stay longer you do a border run or switch to a long-stay visa.
Can I extend my Thailand visa online?
A government e-extension portal exists, but eligibility is limited by visa type and nationality — most travellers still extend in person at an immigration office.
Can I extend a visa-exempt entry in Thailand?
Yes. Travellers who entered under the visa-exemption scheme can usually apply for a 30-day extension at immigration, on the same TM.7 form and ฿1,900 fee.
